Arçelik, the parent company of Beko and Grundig, was recognised as one of the top three eco-innovation companies for its first-ever integrated washing machine with FiberCatcher® technology.
This week, Real Leaders® launched the inaugural Eco Innovation Awards to its global community of social impact executives. In the Top 50 list, Arçelik, the parent company of 12 well-known home appliance companies, including Beko and Grundig, came in third place with its first-ever integrated FiberCatcher® technology washing machine.
The Real Leaders® Eco Innovation Awards honour environmental impact and award products, programmes, and projects that are actively promoting a healthy planet. The capacity of entries to address an environmental concern as well as their creativity, ingenuity, uniqueness, and measurable effect were all taken into consideration while judging them.
Synthetic microfibers, which make up the majority of microplastics in water and responsible for 33 percent of the microplastics in the ocean, are a significant problem. Arçelik created the innovative FiberCatcher® technology to fend off the rising tide of microplastic waste. The world's first integrated synthetic microfiber filtration system for washing machines equipped with FiberCatcher® technology captures up to 90% of the synthetic fibres released from garments, assisting in the preservation of rivers, seas, and marine life. To further decrease plastic waste, each FiberCatcher® washing machine made with a recycled PET tub includes up to 60 recycled bottles.
"We are honored to have our innovation recognized by Real Leaders and pleased to be in the company of our fellow award winners," said Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Arçelik. "The climate crisis is the most pressing issue of our day, and we need creative, innovative solutions as well as collaborative action to ensure a sustainable future. Our FiberCatcher® technology is a world-first innovation in preventing synthetic fiber waste leaking into waterways and demonstrates our commitment to develop effective and concrete solutions to some of our biggest environmental challenges as well as to encourage others to live a more sustainable lifestyle."
