Eaton conducts a campaign for greater protection against fire and sources of ignition from electrical

A new technical report highlights the risk fire ignition sources of electrical work.

Some of these rules were already installation are now included in national codes of good practice and, moreover, is supplemented by other national requirements. For example, in Germany, according to the latest edition of VDE 0100-420, concerning the use of electric arc protection systems for fixed equipment, says that during normal operation may cause arcing and sparking, and their use is necessary when there are high demands on the electric system availability. As of February 2016, these devices protect against arc have been considered certain circuits in the projects of new facilities and modifications and extensions in existing electrical systems.

The fires with the electrical ignition sources may occur for various reasons, which require different types of protection. In case of short circuit, for example, a switch is activated automatically when it exceeds a critical value, which prevents thermal destruction of the plant. A residual current breaker detects current that does not return to power, but uses another way, ensuring an important protection against electric shock. However, RCDs alone can not effectively protect against fire ignition sources of electrical nature. Current derived from an electric arc is somewhat smaller than the rated current or similar, but shows a significant amount of the higher frequencies, which are superimposed on the normal rated current. In recognition of this high-frequency model requires a digital sensing unit. For this reason it was introduced defect detection device of arc (AFDD) in accordance with IEC 62 606, which can react and stop arcs that are hard to see, but extremely dangerous.

Ensure protection of low voltage installations is a core competency of Eaton, which boasts over 100 years of experience in technology distribution and power protection. With innovations such as Differential breaker with integrated protection from suparcurent and digital differential breaker, the company offers a unique portfolio of leading products on the market. Eaton has now launched a compact device. AFDD + detects arcing and residual current, overcurrent and short circuit, while also providing protection against all of them. Thus, this is a cost-effective solution, robust, reliable, complete and easy to install, which increases safety critical applications, including in bedrooms or living areas of some institutions, such as day care centers or centers of care and support, and space working with high risk of fire due to material processed or stored in the premises in question.
