Galliford Try has been awarded a £66.5 million contract for the Banwell bypass project

Galliford Try, the construction group based in the UK, has announced its Infrastructure business has been awarded a £66.5 million contract for the Banwell bypass project on behalf of North Somerset Council.

This project, funded by the Homes England Housing Infrastructure Fund and won through the Procure Partnerships Framework, aims to ease congestion on the A38 corridor towards Weston-super-Mare, addressing the current bottleneck north of Banwell village. In addition to traffic improvements, the scheme will introduce new routes for walking, cycling, and horse riding.

The Banwell bypass follows a series of recent successes for the Infrastructure business, including the South East Aylesbury Link Road and the completion of the A47 projects at Tuddenham and Blofeld in Norfolk.

David Lowery, Divisional Managing Director for Galliford Try Infrastructure, shared his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to have been entrusted with this significant bypass project in the Local Authority sector, which aligns perfectly with our Sustainable Growth Strategy. Our team looks forward to collaborating with North Somerset Council to deliver a high-quality scheme that enhances the community's quality of life.”

Lauren Oxland, Key Account Manager for the Procure Partnerships Framework, added, “It’s exciting to support North Somerset Council in procuring this vital infrastructure project. The Banwell bypass will greatly improve local transportation routes and foster long-term benefits by unlocking future housing developments and encouraging sustainable travel. We eagerly anticipate working with Galliford Try as this important project moves forward.

Councillor Mike Bell, Leader of North Somerset Council and Executive Member for Major Projects, remarked, “The funding approval from Homes England for the Banwell bypass is fantastic news, allowing us to continue vital work already in progress."
